  • A plastic-free future. That's what food packaging company Huhtamaki wants to work on. More and more consumers and companies ask for sustainable food packaging. Also, the use of single-use plastic is restricted in the EU. That's why Huhtamaki wants to change from a plastic-producing company to 100% sustainable food packaging company. And fast.
  • Huhtamaki's Fiber Technology Center plays an important part in this transformation. The center specializes in developing products and machines to produce sustainable food packaging, based on fibers. It also deploys these new machines at Huhtamaki’s production facilities elsewhere. Due to the high demand for sustainable food packaging Huhtamaki needs to innovate fast. Developing many new products and machines at once. It's a huge transformation for Huhtamaki.

And to take every step together, based on the needs of the organization. First, we create a common vision with the team. How can the Fiber Technology Center contribute to Huhtamaki's strategy for a plastic-free future? Next, we looked at the right organization structure for this fast-growing team, including a new management team. We coached the new management team to grow in their new roles as leaders. And to grow as one team.

  • Also, we professionalized the way projects are managed. We introduced the stage-gate model, which helps to streamline all these new projects in parallel, delivering them on time and in budget. We involved employees from the start of this transformation. We informed them every step of the way and asked them to come up with new ideas. Now, the team operates as one team with 250 professionals with 26 different nationalities. Making a smoother transition from idea to production. Working with a shared vision towards one common goal.
