Royal Schiphol Group is an airport company with an important socio-economic task. Royal Schiphol Group is the owner and operator of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Rotterdam The Hague Airport and Lelystad Airport, and holds a majority stake in Eindhoven Airport. It has the ambition to create the world's most sustainable airport in 2030. In 2050 the airport wants to be Fully Circulair and Energy Positive
How did we help Schiphol to fulfill their ambition to drive and steer on value creation?
In order to fulfill the Royal Schiphol Group ambition, the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol wants – partly due to CSRD regulations – report on more than just financial metrics. To drive and steer on value creation, Schiphol Group asked us to develop a methodology that incorporates value-driven parameters, serving as a foundation for embedding value creation at the core of their business.
We launched two pilot projects to begin measuring sustainability metrics, addressing the relatively new concept of value creation. One key aspect was ensuring the accuracy of metrics, data, and their visualization. Another crucial element was engaging stakeholders, which involved significant effort to help them understand the importance of focusing on value creation.
By focusing on these metrics, Schiphol Group has been able to highlight and promote positive impacts in areas such as energy positivity and circularity.
“The metrics helps to provide an insight into the value that (maintenance) projects contribute to the goals and ambitions of Schiphol.”
Taco van Iersel, Schiphol Sustainability & Energy Management Manager
