• Direct engagement of all employees with organizational goals
• Translation of strategic sustainability vision into concrete goals and roadmap
• Team and individual goals to contribute to shared vision
How do you bring an ambitious sustainability strategy alive, so that it does not remain on paper, but actually takes root within the organization? For a food organization committed to a more sustainable world, we facilitated a strategy cascading process with the goal of connecting the strategic vision to the daily actions of employees. The result? More involvement, clarity and ownership at all levels
Strategy Cascading
To make the sustainability strategy tangible and applicable, we took a three-phase approach:
1- Gathering insights through interviews
We started with interviews with the managers from different teams to identify their perspectives, challenges and needs. These insights formed the basis for an approach that actually connects with reality.
Let’s change the system
2- All-Hands session: from vision to guidance
During an organization-wide meeting, we translated the strategic sustainability vision into concrete goals for 2025 and a roadmap for the next five years. This created a shared picture of the direction we are working towards.
3- Interactive workshops per team
In cascading workshops, the teams got to work translating the organizational sustainability strategy to their own context. They formulated ambitions, goals, KPIs and discussed how the core values would translate into daily behavior. Through stimulating questions such as “What would happen if our team went on sabbatical for three months?” and “What does success mean for us this year?”, valuable conversations and concrete plans emerged.
This approach created more alignment, ownership and energy in the organization. Employees clearly saw how their work contributes to the bigger picture, and felt more connected to the strategic direction.
“From vision to action: this process demonstrated that strategy becomes powerful when it’s shared by all”
