Royal Schiphol Group is an airport company with an important socio-economic task. Royal Schiphol Group is the owner and operator of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Rotterdam The Hague Airport and Lelystad Airport, and holds a majority stake in Eindhoven Airport. It has the ambition to create the world's most sustainable airport in 2030. In 2050 the airport wants to be Fully Circular and Energy Positive.
In order to fulfill the Royal Schiphol Group ambition, the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol wants to report on more than just financial metrics. To drive and steer on value creation, Schiphol Group asked us to pilot the methodology with the use of change management and our proven “head and heart approach”.
How did we help Schiphol in defining and piloting a methodology to drive value creation?
Following the ‘think big, start small’ philosophy, we initiated a pilot for two maintenance projects to introduce and implement value creation.
“People are willing to change, however they don’t want to be changed”. They value having influence on their actions. That’s why we made the change tangible and allowed them to experience it firsthand.
Change management was crucial in gaining support for the proposed method from the various teams within Schiphol and the key construction partners. We used our proven ‘head and heart’ approach, focusing on both the structural side - measuring circularity and energy, such as how we can use more recycled concrete in maintenance projects - and the cultural side. We listened, collaborated, and actively shared the first success. This inspired others within the organization to start working with value-driven management as well, creating a ripple effect that continues to expand.
“Think big, start small – that’s how we started to create the ripple effect of value creation.”
