After getting a taste of the energy transition, Ella Molenschot could not wait to contribute as a consultant at Been Management Consulting. After her master's in international management she felt ready for a new challenge. What made her decide to apply and what were her first impressions of the team? Let’s get to know Ella.
What is your background?
I started my studies at Erasmus University College Rotterdam. During my bachelor’s in Liberal Arts and Sciences I was able to study a wide variety of subjects like sociology, international relations, and economics beside my major in Business. The international environment, community feeling and multidisciplinary focus drew me to this program and I still value these a lot.
Those aspects were also what attracted me to my master’s degree. I studied International Management as part of the CEMS (The Global Alliance in Management Education) program at Rotterdam School of Management and Corvinus University of Budapest. I wanted to deepen my business knowledge with a strategic focus in a multicultural environment that emphasizes the link between the academia and real businesses.
During my master’s, I had the opportunity to engage with various organizations and topics, like pitching a startup at the European Space Agency and creating a strategy for business development of solar PPAs in Central Europe. Finally, in my master thesis I addressed a topic that I personally care about, the development of female entrepreneurship, through investigating the gender gap in entrepreneurial financing.
After graduating, I joined a solar energy company based in Eindhoven, where I experienced the dynamic industry of renewable energy from within. My role focused on go-to-market processes as well (commercial) project management.
What made you decide to apply at Been Management Consulting?
I knew I wanted to “do good” with my career, but was still looking for a personal interpretation of what that entailed for me. The holistic definition of positive impact at Been Management Consulting is exactly what I relate to and I wanted to contribute right away. Also, the head and heart approach of Been Management Consulting really captured me. The humanistic approach to clients as well as its own employees is what I looked for in an employer. Every interaction I had with Been colleagues made it feel like home!
Generally, my experiences with renewables and solar energy in particular opened my eyes to the energy transition and made me realize that I want to play a bigger role in it. Consulting interested me because I was looking for an environment where I could engage with strategic challenges. Solving complex questions energizes me and I’m interested in collaborating with different organizations and sectors. Also, I wanted to ensure that in my work I would actually leave the client better off than before after finishing a project. I have found all of this at Been Management Consulting.

What is your first impression of the team?
Arriving at Been Management Consulting was like a warm bath. Everyone is very open and genuine and I immediately felt welcome. You really can ask anyone anything, which made the first few weeks really comfortable. It was clear that the team had seriously considered what it would take to create a soft landing and did exactly that.
You really notice that there is room here for everyone to be their true self. The different personalities make it a fun environment and the fact that there is a healthy amount of competitiveness in basically everyone made our recent padel tournament all the more entertaining!
What do you look forward to learning in the next couple of months?
Everything! I wish I could experience it all at once, the more I hear about the work Been Management Consulting is doing, the more enthusiastic I get. I believe there are so many ways that we can create impact with our clients. My goal is to get acquainted with our methods and make them my own. Learning more about our approach to change management is one of the topics on top of my list. I also look forward to expanding my knowledge on the energy transition and the biggest barriers we currently face.
Can you tell us a little bit about your personal life?
I was born and raised in Brabant and I recently moved to Amsterdam with my boyfriend Daniel. Enjoying a homecooked meal together is one of my favorite pastimes. I recharge by spending quality time with my close friends and family. These days, you’ll often find me going for runs around the parks of Amsterdam with my running club. It helps me stay active, but it’s also a great social activity. Generally, I love exploring new things and visiting new places, whether that is experiencing a new culture and cuisine abroad or finding a new favorite coffee spot near home.
What book, podcast or movie that you recently discovered would you like to recommend to your colleagues?
I love listening to podcasts at any time: when commuting to work, doing chores in the house, or running. One of my favorite podcasts is “People I (Mostly) Admire” by Freakonomics co-author Steve Levitt. He speaks with inspiring people, from trivia champions to breathing gurus, about topics they’re experts in, from fixing law enforcement to financing carbon capture technology. I usually find myself learning something new that causes me to reconsider practical habits or thinking patterns.
