Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m Melle Puntman, recently graduated from the master’s program in Sustainable Business and Innovation and the bachelor’s in Science and Innovation Management at Utrecht University. During my thesis, I interned at Been, where I conducted research on data sharing in the electricity grid. Alongside my studies, I spent five years insulating floors – a practical way to contribute to sustainability. That blend of thinking and doing suits me well. I also enjoy films, music, fitness, tennis, and padel, and I love spending time with family and friends.
Why did you choose Been?
I first got to know Been at a career fair in Utrecht in early 2024, and the atmosphere among the people immediately appealed to me. What stood out was the small, close-knit team and the opportunity to quickly take on responsibility in meaningful projects. I also really appreciated that Been is a B Corp, which means projects are approached with a strong focus on impact – something that aligns closely with my own values.

How would you describe the work atmosphere?
The atmosphere at Been is very pleasant. During my internship, I spent six months happily coming to the office. There’s always room for a personal chat, a walk around the block, and colleagues are easy to approach with questions. That creates a warm, open culture where you quickly feel at home.
What is it like to work in a smaller organization?
I actually really enjoy it. The personal approach and guidance, and the fact that you quickly get involved with clients, are important aspects of the job for me. You work closely with people, rather than getting lost in analysis – and that makes the work more meaningful.
In what way would you like to make a positive impact in your work (with our clients)?
Previously, I made a literal impact by helping to insulate homes. Now, I want to do that by bringing people within organizations together, helping them set shared goals, and making sure everyone feels involved. My thesis showed that organizational change is often a social challenge. I want to help break through those barriers so that sustainability becomes more than just a strategy – it becomes something that truly lives within the organization.
Can you tell us something about your personal life?
In my free time, I enjoy going to the gym and sauna, and I regularly visit the local arthouse cinema. I also love playing tennis and padel, and discovering new spots in Utrecht. Spending time with close friends over a board game makes me happy, and I enjoy developing a unique sense of humor with each friend. People see me as easygoing and someone you can always take to a party. I also love going to house festivals and events.
What book, podcast or film would you recommend to your colleagues?
Focus: The World of ASML gave me a great insight into how that company operates. The Bermuda Triangle of Talent really resonated with me during a phase where I was making career decisions. I also enjoy reading Moral Ambition and other books by Rutger Bregman. As for podcasts, I like De Machine (about the music industry), Geschiedenis Inside, and Als muren konden praten. And I’m a big fan of films like Memento, Fight Club, and Shutter Island.
What values are important to you?
I think it’s important to treat others and the world with respect. Treat others the way you’d want to be treated yourself. I believe in not being too hard on one another, and in maintaining balance and joy in life – those are values I really care about.
