Jill brings consulting experience in sustainability and project management. After completing her traineeship, she’s ready to make a sustainable impact at Been Management Consulting. Who is Jill and how will she make an impact? Let’s meet Jill.
What’s your background?
With a lifelong interest in sustainability and the business world, I chose to study Business Administration, followed by a master’s in Strategic Management. During this Master’s, I focused on sustainable strategies and the fascinating challenge of balancing people, planet, and profit—the well-known triple bottom line. That complexity and the search for a healthy balance really intrigue me.
Born and raised in Rotterdam, I studied in this city with great pleasure—and I still enjoy living here today. After my studies, I completed a traineeship at OchtendMensen as a sustainability advisor. During this time, I worked on a wide range of projects—both in the corporate world and with government organizations. That’s where I discovered how much I enjoy the consulting profession, especially when I can help organizations integrate sustainability into their strategy and operations in a practical and impactful way. Joining Been Management Consulting felt like a natural next step!
What’s your first impression of the team?
My first impression of Been is that it’s a super enthusiastic, smart group of people who care deeply about making a positive impact through their work. That really resonates with me! I was welcomed with open arms, and everyone on the team is willing to help, share lessons from their own projects, or brainstorm with you about your projects. This made me feel at home very quickly.
"Helping organizations grow meaningfully while creating positive impact on society as a whole gives me energy."
Jill Ober, Sustainability Consultant
What’s it like working for a small organization?
A small organization like Been allows you to get to know everyone quickly, and after just two months, it feels like I’ve been here much longer. You quickly learn what projects others are working on, which makes it easier to support each other. The atmosphere is very collegial and open, and colleagues are always willing to help—something I really appreciate. You quickly notice that the team is the company. In addition to client projects, everyone also has internal responsibilities, which gives you the space to grow and contribute to building the company together. Everyone makes a meaningful contribution in their own way.
How would you like to make a positive impact in your work (with our clients)?
I want to help clients translate complex sustainability challenges into clear, actionable strategies. With a pragmatic mindset and structured approach, I make issues manageable. By collaborating, understanding each other, and building trust through substance, we create solutions that truly work. I also hope to guide various companies on their journey toward B Corp certification—a global movement that promotes inclusive and sustainable performance, transparency, and a balanced approach to people, planet, and profit. It energizes me to help organizations grow meaningfully while making a positive impact on society as a whole.
Can you tell us something about your personal life?
I find joy in good food, discovering new restaurants, and cooking elaborate meals for friends and family. I love traveling, especially when it allows me to explore new flavors that I can later try to recreate at home. Before joining Been, I went on a beautiful trip through Central and South America, which gave me plenty of culinary inspiration! I also enjoy being active—whether it’s on the tennis court, at the gym, or kitesurfing on the waves. I love being in nature and am slowly starting to enjoy hiking more and more. But I also love spending weekends with a glass of wine on a terrace with friends.
Which book, podcast, or film would you recommend to your colleagues?
On my way to work or while exercising, I often listen to podcasts—either to relax or to learn something new. For a broader perspective on current events, I enjoy De Correspondent. For travel inspiration, I love De Grote Podcastlas, where each country in the world gets its own episode covering everything from economics to history and food—super interesting!
