Needless to say, costs are rising too. Where in 2000 we spent ‘only’ 9.5 per cent of our GDP on healthcare, in 2019 that had risen to 12 per cent. And in 2030 we expect to be spending no less than 30 per cent of GPD on healthcare. The result is that we have to weigh up more often the costs and benefits to society and patients.

So, we need measurable, value-added care.

Value Based Healthcare

The goal is to achieve better health outcomes at the lowest possible cost. Part of this involves switching from paying for volume to paying on the basis of outcomes.  Managing quality means measuring, monitoring, benchmarking and improving based on standardised indicators; ultimately this is a learning process. In short, the PDCA cycle must be followed. On the one hand we do this by optimizing care processes within hospitals. On the other hand, one could think of bringing care to the patient’s home.

Commercial Excellence
